Congratulations to PanAsia, Asian Student Union, Chinese Undergraduate Student Association, Korean Student Organization, Hong Kong Student Association, Singaporean and Malaysian Student Union, Japanese, Students Association, Green Campus Initiative, Asian American Intervarsity, alpha Kappa Delta Phi and Lambda Phi Epsilon for a hosting a successful Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 5.
Over 200 people participated and attended this wonderful celebration featuring dinner and a show for attendees. The dinner featured cuisines from various Asian countries. Following dinner, the show kicked off with a traditional Lion Dance by Truc Lam Lion Dance Team. Hongyi Yu, a member of the Asian Student Union Board sung a song called "One Night in Beijing", which combines pop music and Peking Opera together. Jay Sern Tan, winner of the 2008 and 2010 UChicago Chicago Idol also performed that evening. He sang 安静 (Silent).
Members of the various organizations also performed with different types of traditional instrument. Joshua Solomon, a member of the Japanese Student Association played several pieces on the Tsugaru Shamisen. A member of KSO played on the Korean gayageum, while Yeonjean Gahng danced. A performance of the hulusi was also performed by a nationally recognized Chinese hulusi winner The event appealed to many different students and all the organizations involved are looking forward to collaborating again next year.

Undergraduate Student Organizations Highlights
Below is a highlight of a selection of various undergraduate student organizations. For a full listing of all the student organization, visit the OCRSA website or visit the RSO fair on Friday, October 1 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on the main quad.
Alpha Phi Omega is the University of Chicago's co-ed national service fraternity. We provide community service opportunities for our members, both on campus and in the city of Chicago. Our Chicago opportunities have included serving food at a community breakfast in Hyde Park, delivering meals to the homeless downtown, and participating in the Earth Day Cleanup in Washington Park. On campus, we have collaborated with the Council on University Programming, the Chicago Swing Dance Society, and Kairos. We also provide fellowship events for members, such as movie nights, shake days, hot chocolate study breaks, along with attending events held by our members' other RSOs.
Information sessions will be Sunday, October 3 and 10, at 5pm in the South Lounge of the Reynolds Club. Please contact our pledgemaster, Emily England, at eengland08@uchicago.edu, or find us at apo.uchicago.edu or on Facebook.
Chicago Raas is a competitive, co-ed dance team on campus that wants YOU to tryout! No dance experience is necessary! There is an informational session on Thursday, September 30th, 2010 at 8:30pm at the 5710 S. Woodlawn - free samosas! Tryouts are on Friday, October 1st at 7:00pm at the Ida Noyes Dance Room (basement of Ida Noyes). Come wearing loose clothes and bring a water bottle. CUSA, or Chinese Undergraduate Students Association, is an Asian interest group open to everyone at the University of Chicago. We strive to provide a forum for unity, as well as opportunities to learn about Chinese culture. CUSA members bond through social activities, entertainment, and Chinese cultural events in order to promote social awareness, diversity, and fun.

Cultural Shows
Spring Quarter is here and the sun is out! We even have students studying on the patio with their classmates! It seems like everyone is really excited about the sun and fun! Cultural RSOs are also very excited to share their cultural shows with everyone this quarter. With music, fashion, singing, and dancing each cultural show is a great time to experience another culture.
With this new month, we have the honor of highlighting this weekend's Cultural Show.
The South Asian Students' Association (SASA) proudly presents the 23rd annual cultural show, Jashan, which will be taking place tomorrow, Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. There will be a fully catered Indian dinner starting at 5 pm in Bartlett Hall, followed by cultural entertainment at 8 pm in Mandel Hall.
The SASA was started with the mission of gathering students of the University of Chicago with an interest in South Asian culture. This RSO "organizes events for the entire University community to promote awareness of South Asian culture". With these events, SASA seeks to be academically, culturally, socially, and/or community oriented in nature to provide insight to all members. With this cultural show, it is the hope that all University students come and enjoy the hard work that SASA has put into it. You can buy tickets at Bartlett tomorrow night for $12 with your UChicago ID or $16 without a UChicago ID and includes the show, dinner, and a T-shirt.

Native Touch Fashion Show
Fashion is a form of self-expression. It evolves with culture, language, history. It is intrinsically connected to our beliefs: the way we think and do things and live. It is as natural to us as talking. As the saying goes “Dress the way you want to be addressed”, fashion is a way of presenting yourself to the world. The turn of the century was pivotal to many people’s lives; it represented a new beginning. For Africa, it was the renaissance of the people.
After decades of people of African descent - in the Caribbean, in the Americas, in Africa too - held in bondage by history and circumstance, the new millennium was an assertion of our freedom. For the past decade, an eruption of self-expressionism through art - where fashion is an art form - took the continent by storm. It was more than tailorism and popular culture; it was kente and beads mixed with stilettos and big hair. It was Stoned Cherrie and Sun Goddess paving the way for all designers of African descent. You could call it the African Enlightenment.
The Native Touch Fashion show has its foundations in this enlightenment. We aspire to share with the world this new and exciting fashion from Africa, the Caribbean Islands, and the Americas.

HUNGER BANQUET FOR HAITI
Join Uchicago's collaborative effort to tackle the crisis in Haiti and understand global hunger.
What is this? A hunger banquet is an event to raise awareness of global hunger--in this case, to put the crisis in Haiti in the context of global poverty. Each attendee will be randomly assigned to a group upon arrival. These groups reflect global food distribution statistics, and each group will receive a different meal accordingly.

Bringing Michelle Obama to the Unviersity of Chicago
In an attempt to catch the attention of Michelle Obama, Student Government (SG) and the Organization of Black Students (OBS) will film a 10-hour video in the Reynolds Club tomorrow inviting the First Lady to speak at OBS’s annual Kent Lecture.
